Fraud Alert to Notify Property Owners of New Transactions

The Orange County Clerk’s Office is providing a free new tool to help property owners protect one of their most valuable assets.

With Fraud Alert, you can sign up to receive alerts whenever a document, such as a deed or a mortgage, is recorded under your name. Documents can then be viewed online or at the Clerk’s Office.

“This is an easy way for homeowners to have peace of mind, at no cost to them.” Said County Clerk Kelly Eskew.

You can sign up for free at Https://searchiqs.com/fraudalert/?CC=NYORA

Please note there may be other property owners in the County that share the same name.

Choose your Electric and Natural Gas supplier to save money

Public Service Message

With the rising costs of Electric and Natural Gas, we suggest you visit
NY Power to Choose.  This website gives you the opportunity to shop for lower Electric and Natural Gas supplier rates. You will need a copy of your most recent Orange & Rockland Utility bill to compare the rates.

You will be asked to enter your zip code and the website will give you all the current rates available to you. You want to compare how much you are paying per KWH for electric. If you have natural gas, you will want to compare how much per CCF you are paying. Some utility suppliers have fixed rates for a period of months, while others have variable rates.  Below, we have given examples of where to find your current rate on your utility bill.

Importance of House Numbers During an Emergency

House numbers are not only convenient for finding addresses but necessary for emergency responders to locate those in need. Minutes matter so be sure that fire, ambulance, and police personnel can quickly find your address. It is important to have the correct address number visible on your house , as well as your mailbox.

Do your part to help yourself and have your house numbers displayed near the front door, under a light in a size and color that is easily visible from the street.  If you live in a rural area maintain your house number sign that is near your driveway. Don’t let it get covered with snow this winter.

If the numbers on your house are not visible or easy to read, it will take emergency personnel longer to reach you. Those extra minutes spent trying to locate a property can mean the difference between life and death, so take the time now to be sure your house numbers may be seen from the street.
